Life Insurance  *  for special families

A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove.  But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child. ~~ Forest Witcraft

Being the parent or caregiver of a special needs child comes with immense & unique financial responsibility.  It's important to insure that your child or dependent will continue to receive the best care in the event something happens & you are unable to provide further care.  Just as important is insuring your surviving family against the financial impact that will continue with caretaking responsibilities.

Did you know...In a 2008 study of families with special needs children it was found that 82% of parents fear their children won't have enough financial support upon the parents death, compared with 18% of parents with normally developing kids?  Think about that percentage for a moment and ask yourself which category you fall into.

Life insurance and special needs trusts are often the primary tools used to fund long term care due to the tax free benefits paid to beneficiaries. For parents of children with a disability, purchasing life insurance requires the same careful planning as other special needs considerations.  However, transferring wealth directly to a special needs beneficiary brings added complications which must be addressed in the planning stages with a professional who is proficient in special needs planning and insurance products.  Unlike typical beneficiaries, an inheritance over $2,000 may disqualify special needs beneficiaries from certain federal and state assistance programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid Disability Income & Housing Programs.

Do you have a plan to protect your family from special needs costs in the future?  It is possible to protect special needs resources and provide additional income to help family members upon your death.

Do you have a goal & time frame in mind to initiate a viable insurance strategy?
It's disheartening to see families who work tirelessly taking care of special needs relatives, only to neglect to implement a financial plan for their family's future.  Even harder is to see families spend years investing in an inadequate financial plan, only to find out too late that the special needs beneficiary must choose between an inheritance or their state and federal benefits, leaving family members to cover additional out-of-pocket expenses.  Solutions to these concerns are available and attainable.

So how do you avoid risk and accomplish the task of creating a financial strategy for your family's future?  By developing a plan with a professional who understands special needs policies. A professional
who is not afraid to ask tough questions, has an abundance of special needs referrals and who is capable of navigating complex regulations.

As a career advocate for special needs families, I have a personal interest in the cause & a professional connection to my clients special needs.  My personal goal is to help my clients with the delicate balance needed to achieve the long term care and lifestyle their family deserves.  My career goal is to continue my involvement in improving the special needs environment, for families and those with disabilities.
